Jewish-Palestinian Dialogue: Building Bridges Toward Understanding

Is a collection of essays alternating Jewish and Palestinian voices. Some are based on interviews with members of the Dialogue group. Others were part of panel presentations that members gave in the Bay Area. All contributors made the commitment to listening to each other with compassion and without judgment. They seek to overcome past trauma, create understanding, and build a better future.

The photo on the cover shows an ancient olive tree, planted over a thousand years ago in Palestine. It symbolizes the intertwined history of people who have gone through much suffering, living on a land fraught with conflict, still yearning for a homeland where they can be safe.

The Back Story Behind the Book:

In 1992, Libby Traubman co-founded the Jewish-Palestinian Dialogue Group with her late husband, Len. Their living room became a haven for dialogue between Jewish and Palestinian communities in San Mateo, California, fostering openness and understanding. From humble beginnings, the Dialogue Group has evolved into a symbol of hope and reconciliation, showcasing the transformative power of face-to-face conversation to bridge divides. This approach to conflict resolution has garnered global recognition, inspiring educators, researchers, activists, and even governmental agencies. Face-to-face dialogue has been embraced worldwide, offering solace to communities torn by violence and division, and reminding us that peace is always within reach.
